As the adventurers travelled through a stink of moldering plants they noticed a strange quietness in the sound of birdlife as they approach a somewhat sunken clearing in the woods. At the center of the clearing they find the soggy ground becomes an insect-infested, stagnant, swamp-like pond and what at first appeared to be a dead horse.
Closer investigation revealed that the creature was in fact a dead unicorn with its horn broken off. An examination of the unicorn revealed no obvious cause for death, yet the creature’s eyes were milky and sightless, indicating that it might’ve been blinded at the time of its death. The adventurers also realised that the creature’s horn was removed after its death.
Also strange to the situation was that bugs and scavengers did not appear interested in the body, as one would normally expect when a creature is slain. It is uncertain why something like this occurred to such a delicate creature.
